We often get asked what the difference is between Cleaning and Disinfecting?

Today we are going to share what the difference is.

Cleaning refers to the removal of germs, dirt, and impurities from surfaces. Cleaning does not kill germs, but removing them, lowers their numbers and the risk of spreading infection.

Disinfecting refers to using chemicals to kill germs on surfaces. This process does not necessarily clean dirty surfaces or remove germs, but killing germs on a surface after cleaning, it can further lower the risk of spreading infection.

How to disinfect:

  1. Wear disposable gloves when cleaning and disinfecting surfaces.

  2. Always clean an area with a detergent or soap and water before disinfecting.

  3. Follow product instructions on labels on how to dilute the solution

  4. Disinfect high-touch areas such as– tables, doorknobs, light switches, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets and, sinks.
